About Wandsworth SCITT
Mission Statement
We aim to provide a challenging and well designed programme of school-based practice and academic study to a wide range of trainee teachers. Our inclusive ethos and well resourced environment offer a highly supportive and personalised approach to learning.
Since 1996 Wandsworth Primary Schools’ Consortium (WPSC) has been accredited by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to train highly motivated graduates to teach 5-11 year olds in primary schools via a school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT). From 2003 there has also been the opportunity for trainees to specialise as teachers of 3-7 year olds. For 2012/13 we have PGCE places for 29 trainees. The course provides trainees with the theoretical and practical experience needed to meet the standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the award of a PGCE with credits towards one third of a Master’s. For the last five years all who have qualified via Wandsworth SCITT have found work as teachers, a much higher percentage than the national average.
Please note that Wandsworth Primary Schools’ Consortium no longer has links with the Graduate Teacher Programme. If you are interested in learning more about this employment-based route into teaching you should contact the West London Partnership on: 020 8547 8342.
Location
We are currently based in a training suite at the top of Swaffield School with our own entrance on St Ann’s Hill, London SW18 2SA. This is within easy reach of Earlsfield and Clapham Junction mainline stations and is well served by local bus routes which link to various tube stations. Facilities include the main office, two large lecture rooms with interactive whiteboards, an ICT room with internet access, plus a common room for trainees to use with microwaves, fridges and a dishwasher. We also have a small library and resource area and video and television facilities. Wandsworth’s Professional Centre is also regularly used with its adjoining “Work and Play” recycled materials centre, as well as the many facilities offered by Kingston University Library and Resource Centre.
Please note that from September 2012 we will be based at Alderbrook Primary School, Oldridge Road, London SW12 8PP.
